In financial uncertain times it's just natural to get a little worried or pesimistic about the security of our jobs. In stressfull situations people react differently. Below you will find a few tips that might help.
- Acknowledge your fear and respect that colleagues react differently. There are no right or wrong feelings.
- Do not care soo much. Stop caring about changes you can't do something with. Stop caring about rumors at the workplace and news about the company in media. It will only make you demotivated.
- Focus on the things you can do something with.
- Do your job and do it well.
- If you're beeing made redundant, see it as an opportunity to do something completely different than the position you were let go from. Change is an opportunity to follow your dreams.
- Make a plan B, in case you loose your job.
- Ask management for regular status updates. Lack of information from management, can lead to frustration and demotivation. Reading updates about downsizing or outsourcing in media first, is not good.
- Talk about the process, but not all the time!
- Remember to still have fun and celebrate tings. Humor can reduce stress and break the tension.
- Take charge, update your skills and competence. Study online?
- Start your job search immediately. It's sometimes easier to find a job when you still have one.
- Keep your network active. Use social media and events to create new relationships.
- Consider joining a trade union. Unions care and work for your rights.
- Do not feel pressured to sign a severance package, even if you are a senior. There might be options, other tasks you can do etc.
- Write about your feelings, journaling may help.
- Talk to a trusted friend or co-worker.
- Care about colleagues. If you are not in scope, care about colleagues who are effected.
- Take good care of yourself, see friends, exercise, go hiking, anything that makes you feel better.
- See solutions not obstacles. Maybe it's time to follow your dream and become your own boss.
- Stay positive, your time will come.
Tough situations build strong people in the end!
Good luck!
